Can you use AI images commercially?
In most cases you can use images made with AI Image Studio for personal and commercial projects. We don't claim ownership of your images, and the AI model is released under a licence that allows commercial use. You are still responsible for making sure an image doesn't copy anyone else's protected work.
Who owns the images?
We don't claim any ownership of the images you create, and we don't keep copies of them. Whatever rights exist in an image are not held by us. You can use, edit, share and sell them, subject to the points below.
What licence does the AI model use?
AI Image Studio uses FLUX.1 [schnell], an open model from Black Forest Labs. It is released under the Apache 2.0 licence, a permissive open-source licence that allows commercial use. This is different from some other FLUX models, such as FLUX.1 [dev], which carry non-commercial licences.
Can AI images be copyrighted?
It depends on the country, and the law is still developing. In the United States, the Copyright Office has said that material generated entirely by AI, without enough human creative control, can't be registered for copyright. Images you have meaningfully edited or combined with your own work may be treated differently. Other countries have their own rules. In practice, this means others may be able to reuse a purely AI-made image, so don't rely on copyright alone to protect a key brand asset.
Things to avoid
- Trademarks and logos: don't create images that copy another company's logo, brand name or packaging.
- Copyrighted characters: famous characters from films, games and comics belong to their owners, even when an AI draws them.
- Real people: don't use someone's likeness to suggest they endorse a product, or to mislead people. See the content policy.
- Living artists' styles: asking for a living artist's exact style may be legal in many places, but it can harm their work and reputation. Describe the qualities you like instead.
Should I say an image is AI-generated?
Being open about AI-generated images builds trust, and some platforms and advertising rules require it. Many social networks ask you to label realistic AI images, especially of people or news events. When in doubt, add a short note such as "Image created with AI".
